13-Period Setup     Periods

Fiscal Period maintenance

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Use this task to set up Fiscal Years and their Fiscal Periods. When you set this up initially you should set up all Years you may be using, including previous years to support comparatives and enough future years, so you don’t need to run this task again for a while. So set up least last Year, this Year and the next five Years.

TipButton  If the FiscalPeriod table was set up improperly you can use Options | Empty FiscalPeriod table... and set it up properly.

Remember that a Fiscal Year is determined by the calendar year in which it ends, not the calendar year in which it begins. For example, if the company’s Fiscal Year ended March 31, 2010 then Fiscal Year 2010 refers to the time period from April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.

This task supports maintaining 12-period and 13-period Fiscal Years.

When you first run this task the FiscalPeriod table may be empty.

12-Period Setup description

If you have 12 Periods in Year the system generates the complete FiscalPeriod table and there is nothing more you need to do.

Options menu

Options | Generate FiscalPeriod table...

Use this option within the Setup tabsheet to generate the FiscalPeriod table based on your Setup specifications.

Options | Empty FiscalPeriod table...

Use this option within the Setup tabsheet to empty the FiscalPeriod table so you can generate it again.

Options | Finalize 13-Period FiscalPeriod table

Use this option within the Periods tabsheet to fill in any blank Start Dates after specifying the initial Start Date value and all End Date values for a 13 Periods in Year setup.

Options | Refresh FiscalPeriodDate table…

When you exit this task after having generated a new FiscalPeriod table, the FiscalPeriod table is verified, and after verification succeeds the FiscalPeriodDate table is refreshed.

A 12-Period FiscalPeriod table is generated by the system based on your specifications and that verification will be successful.

A 13-Period FiscalPeriod table is edited by the user and this means there may be errors which will be detected during that verification phase. If that occurs you will be advised and the FiscalPeriodDate table will not be refreshed.

When you run this task and exit without generating a new FiscalPeriod table this Refresh FiscalPeriodDate will not occur.

This also means that if the FiscalPeriod table is edited independently from this task then no verification will have occurred and the FiscalPeriodDate table will not have been refreshed.

Use this option within the Setup tabsheet to verify the FiscalPeriod table and refresh the FiscalPeriodDate table if the FiscalPeriod table may have been edited outside of this task.
