Most forms include a Speedbar below the Menu. Speedbar buttons usually have a menu equivalent but clicking the button is typically quicker.

AdaptAccounts data is maintained in database tables. Most of what you do involves viewing and editing tables. So most forms involve viewing and editing tables and these forms have database navigator controls on their speedbar. Many forms have more than one table but at any point in time there is a particular table and record that is currently active and the navigator controls apply to that table and record.

The navigator controls described below are also available from the Record menu which also shows the corresponding shortcut keys.

Navigator

FirstButton Click this button or use Record | First to move to the first record.

PriorButton Click this button or use Record | Prior to move to the previous record.

NextButton Click this button or use Record | Next to move to the next record.

LastButton Click this button or use Record | Last to move to the last record.

InsertButton Click this button or use Record | Insert to Insert a new record.

When the system inserts a new record it may fill in some fields with their default values. If the Edit button is disabled it means this newly inserted record has not yet been posted to the database. If the Edit button is enabled it means this newly inserted record has been posted to the database.

When you’re adding records to a table displayed in a grid and your current record is the last one in the grid it’s better to just press the [DownArrow] key. This is the same as clicking the Insert button except that your new record is inserted below the current record.

DeleteButton Click this button or use Record | Delete to Delete the current record.

In some cases, such as for a detail record in transaction entry, the record will be deleted immediately without prompting for confirmation. In other cases you will be prompted for confirmation. Deleting the master record for a transaction deletes the entire transaction including any detail records.

For some tables records may be deleted simply because you request it. For other tables some records may not be eligible for deletion because they are referred to from other tables or for other special reasons. When you request deletion of a record that is not eligible for deletion you are advised and the record is not deleted.

EditButton Click this button or use Record | Edit to Edit the current record.

When the Edit button is not visible it means editing is not available for the current table.
When the Edit button is visible it means editing is available for the current table.
When the Edit button is enabled (and the Post and Cancel buttons are disabled) it means you are not editing the current record.
When the Edit button is disabled (and the Post and Cancel buttons are enabled) it means you are editing the current record.

The Edit button is mainly used as an indicator since you don't usually need to click it. Forms that enable editing generally support automatic editing. This means that when you start changing an editable field the system automatically puts the current record into edit state. However, many grids prefer that you click the Edit button so that if automatic scrolling of that record within the grid occurs then it will occur before you start typing.

PostButton Click this button or use Record | Post to Post the current record.

When the Post button is enabled it means you are editing the current record.
Your changes will be saved into the database and you may resume viewing the table.

CancelButton Click this button or use Record | Cancel to Cancel editing the current record.

When the Cancel button is enabled it means you are editing the current record.
If the record was newly inserted and has not yet been posted to the database then the record is discarded.

RefreshButton Click this button or use Record | Refresh to Refresh the current dataset.

This will show recent changes made by other users or forms.
